Common Football Questions
The main goal is to score more points than the other team. A team can do this by getting the ball into the end zone or by kicking the ball through the goalposts.
A touchdown is worth 6 points. After the touchdown, the team can also try for an extra point or a two-point conversion.
The quarterback helps run the offense. This player usually throws the ball, hands the ball off, or sometimes runs with it.
A first down happens when the offense moves the ball at least 10 yards within four tries. When they get it, they earn a new set of downs.
The defense is trying to stop the other team from scoring. They can tackle the ball carrier, block passes, or try to take the ball away.
A field goal is when the kicker kicks the ball through the goalposts. A successful field goal is worth 3 points.
An interception happens when a defensive player catches a pass that was meant for an offensive player. This gives the defensive team the ball.
Special teams are used during kicking plays. This includes kickoffs, punts, field goals, and extra point attempts.
Players wear helmets and pads to help protect themselves because football includes contact, tackling, and fast movement.
Teamwork matters because every player has a job on each play. If one person misses their job, the whole play can fall apart.
